Get a short, plain-English read of this record: how established the domain is, whether it needs renewing, and what its status codes mean. It reads only the fields listed below.
What it reads
Ask for a plain-English summary of this domain's record.
WHOIS is the public record of who registered a domain and when. Every registry keeps one for the domains under its ending, with the registrar, the registration and expiry dates, the status codes, and the name servers.
The old WHOIS protocol sent plain text over port 43. Registries now publish the same record through RDAP, which returns structured data over HTTPS. This tool reads RDAP, so the dates and fields come straight from the registry.
Most owners are hidden for privacy, but you can usually still reach them.
Run a WHOIS lookup. If the record lists an organization or country, that is what the owner chose to make public.
If the owner is redacted, the registrar keeps the real contact. Many registrars offer a relay form or email that forwards your message.
A site's own contact page, about page, or legal notice often names the company behind it faster than any registry record.
WHOIS privacy hides the owner's name, email, address, and phone number from the public record. Since GDPR came into force in 2018, most registrars redact personal details by default, so you will often see "REDACTED" or a privacy company in place of the owner.
Privacy does not hide the registrar, the dates, the status codes, or the name servers. Those stay public, which is why a lookup is still useful for checking a domain's age, expiry, and who to contact about abuse.

Yes. Look up as many domains as you need, with no sign-up. Lookups are limited to a few a minute so the registries are not flooded.
Privacy rules such as GDPR mean most registrars redact personal details by default. The registrar still holds the real contact, and many offer a form or relay email to reach the owner.
It is a transfer lock set by the registrar. It stops anyone moving the domain to another registrar until the owner unlocks it. It is normal and protects the domain from being stolen.
Both give the same registration record. WHOIS is the older plain-text protocol. RDAP returns structured data over HTTPS, supports international domain names, and is what registries are now required to offer.
This tool reads RDAP, the modern version of WHOIS that every generic ending such as .com, .net, .org, .app, and .dev must offer. Some country endings, including .io and .de, have not published an RDAP server yet, so there is no public record for us to read.
Yes. We save the domain you look up, the result, and any error for 12 months, with your IP address and approximate location, so we can find what goes wrong and improve the tool. The lookup itself goes to the public registry for that domain ending. If you use the AI summary, the record's dates, status codes, and registrar are sent to our AI provider. See our privacy policy.
