What it reads
Ask for a fix plan for this page, in priority order.
The H1 is the main heading of a page, written as <h1> in the HTML. It is usually the large headline at the top, and it tells readers and search engines what the whole page is about.
Below it, H2s mark the main sections and H3s mark the parts inside them. Together they form an outline, like a table of contents. Screen readers use this outline to jump around the page.

<h2>FAQ</h2>Google has said that more than one H1 is not a problem for ranking. Even so, one H1 is the clearest signal: it gives the page one main topic and makes the outline easy to follow for screen reader users.
Multiple H1s are usually an accident: a logo wrapped in an H1, or a template that uses H1 for every section. This heading tag checker shows each one so you can decide.
A good H1 matches what the searcher came for.
Put the search the page targets in the H1, in the words people use. It doesn't need to match the title tag exactly.

It fetches a page, finds every heading from H1 to H6, and shows them as an outline. It flags a missing or duplicate H1, empty headings, and skipped levels.
They should be about the same topic, but they don't need to be identical. The title tag is written for the search results, and the H1 for people already on the page.
It won't hurt rankings directly, but it makes the outline confusing for screen readers and for anyone skimming. Going from H2 to H3 to H4 in order is the clear pattern.
Either the page has no <h1> tag, or the headline is added by JavaScript after the page loads. This tool reads the raw HTML, so headings added later won't show up here.
This checker reads the HTML your server sends, before any JavaScript runs. If your site adds tags or headings with JavaScript, they appear in your browser but not in the raw HTML. Google can render JavaScript, but social apps and many AI crawlers read only the raw HTML, so tags added later may never reach them.
Yes. We save the URL you check, the results, and any error for 12 months, with your IP address and approximate location, so we can find what goes wrong and improve the checker. If you use the AI fix plan, the list of failed checks and the page's title, description, and H1 are sent to our AI provider to write the plan. See our privacy policy.
